Early Years (EYFS)
Early Years Foundation Stage
The Early Years Foundation Stage is a play-based curriculum. Every learning activity is designed to meet each child’s learning intentions and has open ended play opportunities. Children are supported to make ‘next steps’ in their own discoveries and follow their own ideas. The basis for activity planning also starts with each child’s interests to ensure children are motivated to learn.
The day is structured into manageable learning sessions so that children feel safe and secure in their routines and can learn to engage for longer.
Communication, physical development and personal, social and emotional skills form the basis of every lesson. These areas of the curriculum are particularly important for learning and forming relationships.
Children may continue to progress in the Early Years Pathway until they are ready for one of the pathways.
