Parent Liason Officer
The role of the Parent Liaison Officer is to forge strong links between the school and home and to develop a good parent partnership by supporting activities that encourage parents into the school.
This is a part time post for 2 ½ days and I am normally available at school on Monday mornings, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
In my role as the Parent Liaison Officer I show prospective parents and children around the school briefing them about the facilities and support available in the school before they meet the head teacher.
Workshops are organised for parents e.g. Makaton training sessions, and guests are invited from support organisations like the National Autistic Society and Lambeth Family Link, to come and share their knowledge with parents. This includes Trusts and groups that can offer financial support, grants and advise parents about benefits. The school welcomes ideas from parents for future workshops and coffee mornings. Social events are organised for parents and carers to get together.
I also attend meetings like the Parents Forum and Lambeth Carers to gather and bring back information for parents and carers. A selection of useful leaflets, books and videos are available for parents to borrow.
Interpreters are booked when necessary to encourage parents to attend Parent Evenings, meetings and events at the school. Parents are encouraged to share their cultural expertise around festivals, celebratory food and religious events with the school.
A Parent Council has been established in the school with representatives from each class. One of the aims is to provide a positive forum for parents to discuss and understand what is happening at school.
From Year Five onwards the Parent Liaison Worker helps parents with the transition programme by accompanying them to visit prospective secondary schools and attending meetings around the transitional process.
The Parent Liaison Worker role is a varied one including assisting with fundraising, taking orders for the school uniform, helping co-ordinate information for the Newsletter and keeping a photographic record of events attended by parents at school.
I am happy to assist you with any enquiries and concerns you have. You can contact me on the main school number 0208 7691009 or email school at firstname.lastname@example.org which will then be forwarded to me.
